Stunning beauty Coco Rocha, recently voted the number nine supermodel in the world, has revealed how she got her big break – competing at an Irish dancing contest!
Although Coco (born Mikhaila) grew up in Canada, her mother came from Belfast and her father was half Irish, and as a result she experienced a fairly traditional Irish upbringing. Her big break into modelling was in 2002, when agent Charles Stuart spotted her dancing at an ID contest aged just 14. Coco has said ‘if it wasn’t for Irish dancing, I wouldn’t be modelling’.
This is not the only time Coco’s Irish dancing and modelling worlds have collided, however – in Feb 2007, Coco opened Jean Paul Gaultier’s Scottish Highlands inspired Fall/ Winter collection by Irish dancing down the catwalk!
Coco has been widely applauded for speaking out against eating disorders and the pressures models face, and is considered a ‘down-to-earth’ supermodel, refreshingly free of tantrums and entourages!
We think it’s fantastic Coco is such a great role ‘model’, and even better that she’s doing her bit to bring Irish dance into the mainstream!!
