In this month's issue:
We’ve just returned home from the CLRG’s World Irish Dancing Championships in Boston and would like to thank An Coimisiun, the New England Region, and the cities of Boston and Salem for a fabulous event. What a spectacular city for a World championship! Check out the complete coverage of the Worlds throughout this issue.
After our joyous time in Boston we were shocked to hear of two bombs exploding near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three people, injuring at least 260 and turning the city into a nightmarish scene. How is it possible that his fabulous city is experiencing so much pain and fear, we wondered? We stopped, we prayed, and we hoped for those injured.
Yet our hearts were further broken when we learned of a little Irish dancer, Jane Richard, from the Clifden Academy of Irish Dance who lost her leg in the blast. Jane’s brother Martin, age eight, was killed in the explosion, and her mother is battling a serious brain injury. We, the Irish Dancing community quickly banded together to help Jane and her family. I’m so proud of the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of dancers who have reached out to help. Turn to page 13 for more information on how you can help this dancer in need.
Kind regards,
